Local Music

Malaysia is a diverse country in cultures, religions, and music.
What captures the heart of all may be Malaysian food, but for me, Malaysian music is just the cutting edge of our identity. The pronounciation, "flavours", and oaky mood of the songs are predominant in the country and hip-hop scene actually.

Singers such as Zee Avi and Yuna are to me the leading artists in the scene. I'm not saying that the others are not good or as good but due to the local scene's under-popularity, Malaysian music has been in the dark most of the time. Names we often hear such as Siti Nurhaliza and Mawi have already been household terms but we just can't seem to get enough of it.

By the fact that Malaysians have penetrated gigantic music industries such as Taiwan and America, we should acknowledge our own abilities and be confident in ourselves. We're not just architects and engineers but we are artists by heart. All of us. All Malaysians paint a pasrt in the society and by using the language which is ultra-distinctive from others, the country is but a vibrant one.

Malaysians who have made it to other major music industries are Michael Wong, Gar Chaw, Nicholas Teo, and also the religionists Raihan. We can't help but notice the difference in Chinese over Malays making it into the industry. But please, we can't think of it that way. I'm not intimidating anybody by saying so but we are Malaysians. And mind you, I'm not stating anything to do with 1Malaysia because that is a term by the Government, and is totally different from the country, Malaysia. All i want to prove here is, we are Malaysians, and we should identify us as Malaysians, and not Chinese, Indians, or Malays. I know it will sound stupid identifying yourself as a Malaysian while filling in a form for your insurance slip or JPJ when you look very much at home, but we could easily try making "I'm a Malaysian" when we introduce ourselves orally.

Oops, I think I have kinda strayed away from my main topic. Well, back to the main point, we have prove that we can penetrate big industries because we have big hearts and passionate souls. So, budding guitarists, pianists, violinists, singers, make yourself noticed. We Malaysians will support you and God bless you, you shall shine.
